UNT Dallas College of Law hosted the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (“DAYL”) as members presented the 2nd Annual “A Day in the Life of an Attorney” panel discussion on February 3, 2016. Craig Dupen of Bowman and Brooke, L.L.P. moderated the informational sessions for law students. Attorneys on the panel represented various practice areas:
Chelsea Hilliard of Gruber, Hurst, Elrod, Johansen, Hail and Shank. Read her full bio.
Nnamdi Anozie of Lynn Tillotson Pinker Cox. Read his full bio.
Ann Chao of BT Furnishings: In-house Counsel.
First and second year law students attended the program to learn about panelists’ everyday activities as well as some of their most memorable professional experiences. These insightful panelists discussed what they wish they would have known during law school and how students can best prepare for their future careers as attorneys.
Ms. Hilliard shared that for young associates to succeed at her firm, they must be able to ask questions when they are unsure about how to complete an assignment. Mr. Anozie stated that when he was in law school, he had no idea how big of a role marketing would play in his career as an attorney. He noted that many of his peers had similar credentials, but he was able to stand out from the crowd by taking time to enhance his resume in a meaningful way. This allowed Mr. Anozie to effectively advocate for the “most important client” he would ever have, himself. Ms. Hilliard and Ms. Sheu stated that law students should take as many practical, application based courses as possible while remembering the importance of effective research and writing skills.
UNT Dallas College of Law thanks the attorneys who participated in the event and DAYL for hosting.
